Charting the Changing Wealth of Americans (2021)
This 2021 graph, created by the United States Federal Reserve, depicts the changing wealth of American families from the 1980s-2010s. The Federal Reserve (also known as The Fed) monitors U.S. financial policies, manages the country's money supply, and regulates the banking industry in order to stabilize the economy. The Fed also conducts economic research. This table shows how household net worth and income have changed over the past decades. A household's net worth is defined as the total amount of its assets -- bank accounts, homes, vehicles, investments, etc. -- after subtracting what is owed (such as mortgages, loans and other debt). This chart shows how race and ethnicity impacts the net worth of households.
